Crop vs full-frame sensor, an ongoing discussion among photographers. Is a full-frame sensor really superior over a crop sensor, or ist it even the other way around? Which sensor size is better for sports, macro, wildlife photography, or portraits? What about night sky photography? The same lens produces different results on cameras with different sized sensors. As a result, it can be tough to cross-shop Micro Four-Thirds, APS-C, Full Frame, and Medium Format cameras. Crop Factor is a conversion that makes it simple to determine the exact results you'll get with any given lens, regardless of your camera's sensor size. By multiplying your camera's crop factor by a lens' focal length AND aperture, you can determine the full-frame equivalent angle of view, depth-of-field (background blur) and a good estimate of the low-light noise. Here are common crop factors: 1X: Full-frame cameras like the Nikon D610, D750, D850, D5, Canon 6D, 5D, and 1D, Sony a7, a9, Pentax K1 1.5X: APS-C cameras like the Nikon D7200, D5300, D3400, Sony a6500, and Fuji X-T3 1.6X: Canon APS-C cameras like the Canon 7D, 80D, 77D 2X: Micro four-thirds (M43) cameras like the Panasonic GH5, G9, and Olympus E-M1, E-M5, and E-M10 For more information and to see the previous crop factor and equivalency videos, see 🤍 To get an outside opinion, here are articles and videos by other people on the same topic: 🤍 🤍

You can't multiply the lens focal length by 1.5 and that is what a full frame lens will look like on a crop sensor (APSC) camera. Multiplying doesn't give you the actual focal length. AND the background blur actually looks different when using the same aperture on a full frame camera and a crop sensor camera. Check out the TRUTH about lenses on crop sensor cameras. Full frame lenses on Nikon are called FX. On a Canon full frame lenses are called EF and on a Sony they are called FE lenses. Cropped sensor lenses (also known as APS-C lenses) on a Nikon are DX. Is the crop factor in APS-C different in different brands? What is easiest video that does a good job in crop factor explained? What is crop factor in photography? What is a crop sensor? What is crop sensor vs full frame? All these questions will be answered if you watch this video. Beginners find it difficult to understand the difference between dslr crop sensor vs full frame, or what is the difference between full frame vs a crop sensor camera. I understand that it is a difficult concept to grasp, but the concept is pretty simple once you understand. Not only will you understand crop factor, but you will also understand that is a video crop factor. Many popular cameras, such as the Canon M50 Mark II, the Sony A6400 and other Nikon cameras have crop factors, and you will learn about them all.

This is the latest version of the Canon M6 that I used in the video. This version can also shoot 4k: 🤍 Chapters: 0:00 Intro 1:14 Studio Comparison 1:38 Daylight Comparisons 3:57 Low Light Comparisons 4:44 Outro Yes I have made the leap from Canon to Sony. Am I happy about it? Only time will tell. But so far I'm definitely happy with the difference between the Full Frame vs Crop sensor itself. I've only ever owned an APS-C sized sensor until now but stepping up to a full frame is something I've always considered. It's a big price difference so before I sold my old Canon M6 I thought I'd put it to the test with the Full Frame vs Crop sensor comparisons in real world conditions, so that you guys could see the difference for yourselves. What do you think? Is Full frame worth the extra money over an APS-C? I personally think it is! Now I just need to get used to the Sony menu system! Let's get a few things out of the way :: I have said, in the past, that you should move toward full frame sensors. I have always championed full frame sensors. At the end of the day, full frame sensors beat APS sized and smaller sensors. The whole reason I bought an original x100 was because it had the largest sensor I could find in a small camera. It had been a number of years since I had shot an APS crop frame sensor. The last APS camera I shot professionally was the Nikon D200. I replaced that with a Nikon D3 (full frame) and then moved on to the Canon 5d2, (also full frame.) From the time I retired my D200 to using the x100 on jobs was about four years. When I bought that little x100 I had ZERO desire to change to a new camera system. I sure as hell was NOT going to switch from a full frame camera to an APS camera. Full frame cameras are better. Right? If I have ruffled your feathers, as these topics usually tend to do, please read my entire blog post about this topic before you fire something off at me. I go more in depth there. 🤍 Cheers, Zack
In this video you can see the difference between two sensor sizes, a full frame sensor camera and a APS-C or crop sensor camera (60D). We take a quick look at the field of view and depth of field of each camera on a 50mm lens at an aperture of f2. The lens I used is great for nice blurred backgrounds. He shoots the cameras using the same Full Frame equivalent of 50mm. Sensor size plays a bigger role than many photographers may know. Sensor size affects depth of field (blur and separation), bokeh (how large), colors and the low light performance of a camera. #WhirlpoolGalaxy #M51 #SkywatcherEd80 #Astrophotography #FullFrame #CropSensor #Dslr Astrophotography with a full frame and a crop sensor camera can give you different results. Using the same telescope, Skywatcher Ed80/600 I will show you and compare the results on M51 (Messier 51) the Whirlpool Galaxy using cameras with different sensor size: Full Frame 35mm sensor, 24mm crop sensor and 1/3" sensor. The cameras are: Nikon D750(Full Frame) Nikon D7200 (crop sensor) and I added also my results with the Zwo Asi120mm-S 1/3 inch sensor monochrome camera. The video is focused more on the comparison between the full frame and crop sensor dslr, When i tested with the Zwo camera iI could not get the same amount of total exposure because of clouds. I do want to thank you my friend Jim, that sent me his image stack of the whirlpool galaxy, that he made using the Nikon D750. I Used my Nikon D7200 with and without reducer corrector. I edited all the image stacks total of four, as close as I could, so the images will look similar so you can see better the differences. I will show you stept by step also how I photographed the Whirlpool Galaxy, the problems that I had, and give useful tips to improve your astrophotography. In the second part I will compare and analyze the images. Then I will talk also about the advantages and disadvantages of these different cameras. I will talk about telescope focal length, image scale and pixel size, Under-sampling and Over-sampling, that will have an impact on the final result of the images. Here you will learn what camera and telescope work best together and how to capture more details in your astrophotography, especially small deep sky objects, like galaxies or planetary nebulas. You will know what it means if your camera uses a full frame, APS-C, or Micro 4/3 size sensor and how that will affect your camera's low light performance, depth of field, and your lenses' focal length. Camera lenses' focal lengths are based on a Full Frame camera sensor, and any Sensor size less than full frame, such as APS-C and Micro 4/3, will result in a change in the lens' equivalent focal length. APS-C will have a crop factor of 1.5x turning a 50mm into looking like a 75mm, and Micro four thirds will have a crop factor of 2x making the same 50mm lens looking like a 100mm lens. Full frame cameras will also have better low light performance than APS-C and Micro 4/3 because the sensor is larger and can take in more light, which results in less noise in the picture in low light settings. Lastly, Full frame cameras will also produce a shallower depth of field (or a more blurry background) than Micro 4/3 and APS-C sensor sizes will at the same aperture. Now you can see with this camera sensor size comparison how the size of your sensor can have a great impact on your video. 😎 Camber Motion is the educational filmmaking tutorial branch of Camber Films.
