The valve guide seal keeps oil in the top of the cylinder head from leaking down the valve stem and into the combustion chamber. Vehicles with worn valve guide seals usually emit blue smoke from the tailpipe on startup due to the oil that leaked past the seal while the car was parked. Oil leaks from valve guide seals are normally small and the blue smoke from the tailpipe usually dissipates after a short amount of time. Worn valve guide seals can result in oil or ash fouling of the spark plug and cause driveability problems.

#valve_seal #valve #valve_seal_guide 11 Symptoms of a Bad Valve Guide Seals 1. Blue Smoke From Exhaust The most common symptom of a bad valve seal is blue smoke from the exhaust pipe. 2) Excessive Oil Use A vehicle with damaged or worn out valve guide seals will end up using more oil than it normally uses as it leaks by the seals. 3. Performing Engine Braking Test Engine braking is when you use engine vacuum instead of the brakes to slow down the car. This can be done by letting off the throttle and downshifting so that the engine RPM increases. The increased engine speed and lower gearing creates more engine vacuum and resistance to forward motion, slowing the vehicle. When you have a bad valve seal, the oil that collects at the front cover of the head will end up burning when you push on the accelerator after coasting for a while. This is apparent especially when going downhill and again will be indicated by the excessive smoke that leaves the tailpipe. The oil here burns longer than in normal cases. 4) Smoke when idling at Stop and Go Driving Your car spends a while idling in stop and go traffic, or when waiting a long time at a stop light or stop sign. Bad valve seals mostly show themselves when the car is idling for a while. 5. Performing the Cold Engine Test When your vehicle has been sitting overnight or for a longer period of time, the top of the head of the valve cover will have some oil left over from the last time you drove. The rubber valve seal has cooled during nonoperation, which causes it to contract and leave a small gap. When you start the engine, the oil ends up getting sucked down through the bad seal into the combustion area, producing a blueish smoke out of the tailpipe. 6. Engine Misfiring An engine with broken seals can cause oil to build on the electrodes of the engine’s spark plugs. As a result, plug fouling can occur, which is an accumulation of carbon deposits that can cause engine misfires. As carbon buildup increases, so does compression, leading to engine damage from faulty detonation or even issues with pre-ignition. 7) Low Power or Loss in Acceleration Misfires and sluggish acceleration may be a problem with worn valve seals, as the oil burns up and leaves ash on the spark plugs and inside the combustion chamber. Check the spark plugs for spark plug fouling. A compression test on a vehicle with a bad valve guide seal may show unusually high compression – if you see low compression along with these other symptoms, it may be a bad piston ring or a leaky head gasket instead. 8) Ticking or popping Noise When the car starts, misaligned parts or excess play between components in the engine may clack against one another and cause a ticking noise. Since the valve guide seal lubricates and aligns the parts of the valve correctly, a bad valve seal may cause a valve to be out of alignment or insufficiently lubricated leading to noisy operation. At times, you might notice these issues arriving before any other problem. When you accelerate the engine, the noise gets louder. It means that some of the train components of the valve are out of alignment or have worn out. . 9. Oil clogged spark plugs If you recently replaced your spark plugs and noticed that there was some strange clay on the spark plug tips, it is most likely coming from burnt oil after the combustion. This oil will burn into the spark plug and cause clay, which will stay there. This oil is most likely coming from a leaking intake valve sealing or a failed turbocharger. 10. External Oil leaks If you have a turbocharged car, the turbo pressure can go past the intake valve seals if worn, which causes the pressure in the crankcase house to increase. Increased crankcase pressure can result in external oil leaks 11. Rough Idling A defective valve seal is easily noticeable when your car is idling. The car engine is often susceptible to holding a steady low, idling RPM. Because of this, when a valve seal is bad, and there is oil going into the combustion chamber, you might notice rough idling or even stall sometimes. HOW TO TELL IF CAR BURNS ENGINE OIL FROM VALVE STEM SEALS OR PISTON RINGS In this video we will explain how to find out if a car burn oil from piston rings or from valve stem seals. The two most common causes for excessive oil consumption are worn piston rings or bad worn valve stem seals. The valve stem seals will let oil drip in the cylinder and your car will burn engine oil, while the piston rings will not collect all the oil from the cylinder wall and that will lead to excessive oil consumption and burning oil. We will explain how we usually find out whether your car is burning oil because of bad piston rings or from bad valve stem seals. It is a simple method that should guide you in the right direction to figure out if you need new piston rings or valve stem seals. ► Piston Rings (check fitment): 🤍 ► Valve Stem Seals (check fitment): 🤍 ► Check out our Amazon Store for the tools and parts that we use: 🤍 ► Our Website: 🤍 ► Our Baby Girl Channel: 🤍 ► Our Second Car Channel: 🤍 ► Honest Product Review Channel: 🤍 ► GoFundMe Link: 🤍 Our Most Popular Videos: ► Bumper Repair: 🤍 ► Missing Wheel Lock: 🤍 ► Bearing Replacement: 🤍 ► Restore Headlights: 🤍 ♦♦♦ Cameras & Gear Used For This Video ♦♦♦ •Cameras Panasonic Lumix FZ300: 🤍 •Tripod Polaroid 72-inch: 🤍 •Microphone Polaroid Pro Video Condenser: 🤍 •Light NEEWER 160 LED CN-160 Dimmable: 🤍 •Comuter for editting Lenovo ideapad 310: 🤍 ♦♦♦ Other Equipment and Gear that I use ♦♦♦ •Camera Sony HD Video Recording HDRCX405: 🤍 •GoPro HERO5 Black: 🤍 •Extra Computer For Editting Lenovo Ideapad 510: 🤍 ► Like Us on FACEBOOK: 🤍 ► LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for MORE DIY VIDEOS that could SAVE YOU BIG $$$$$$$ !!! When you’re putting valves back together and it’s time to put the tablets back on the ends of the valves it can be a little tricky, I’ve made some special tools out of all PVC pipes that help me compress the springs so I can take the valve tablets stick them to a screwdriver using grease. When you have all the right tools the job goes together real nice and easy.

IMPORTANCE OF VALVE SEALS, FUNCTION AND SYMPTOMS.

This video explains the symptoms of valve seals of engine and function. Intake and exhaust valve seals to reduce oil consumption and to maintain perfect combustion of the engine. The valve itself has a seal (and sometimes a protective sleeve) to help prevent leakage of combustion gasses and prevent oil from leaking into the main engine area. These seals are commonly constructed out of a super strength rubber material and they're placed into a small collar of the valve stem's top area.

If your tanks leaks near the toilet bolts, fix your toilet flush valve gasket under the flapper. START - Shut off the water. Then hold the flush handle down to empty the tank. Sponge out the remaining water. 1. Remove the toilet tank. Disconnect the water supply hose from the tank. Unscrew the toilet tank to bowl bolts and nuts. Lift the tank off the bowl and place on a flat surface. 2. Remove the rubber tank-to-bowl gasket sealing ring from the outside bottom of the flush valve. Unscrew the nut that holds the flush valve onto the tank using large-jawed pliers. Reach inside the tank and disconnect overflow tube, unhook the flapper chain to flush lever. Pull out the remaining flush valve unit. 3. Examine the new threaded end inner rubber gasket flush valve to ensure it’s in place. Insert the new flush valve into the hole in the bottom of the tank. Thread the large nut back onto the valve and tighten it by hand. Attach the flapper chain to the flush lever. 4. Adjust the new valve so that the flapper chain block flapper somehow. Adjust the overflow tube height to a minimum of 1 inch below hole for the flush handle. Trim the overflow tube if necessary. Tighten the large nut with the big pliers to ensure a good seating, but less than one-half turn beyond hand-tight to not stress the porcelain. 5. Install a new rubber tank-to-bowl gasket sealing ring over the flush valve outlet for good seal. Hold the top of the tank bolts from inside the tank with a screwdriver, and remove the nuts holding them to the tank with a wrench. Install new tank bolts, washers, gaskets and nuts. Tighten the nuts carefully to avoid damaging the tank. 6. Replace the tank. Set the toilet tank onto the bowl. Press down on the tank so the gasket seats properly; move it around so it seats right. Slide on the new gasket assuring the tapered side facing away from the tank. 7. Tighten the toilet bolts Use new rubber tank washers. Insert the rubber washers in to the tank, then the bolts through the washers. Do not use metal washers inside the tank. From under the bowl, hand-tighten the bolts with another washer and nut. Tighten the toilet bolts alternately, first one side then the other until the tank doesn't wobble. The tank will still move some because the rubber gasket is not supportive or firm. NOTE: Don't over-tighten tank bolts because cracked porcelain. 8. Reconnect the water supply hose to the fill valve Flush and check for leaks. 9. Place the tank back onto the bowl. Thread on the tank-to-bowl nuts, tighten well for good seal from tank to bowl. Don't over-tighten the tank. Clip the tube from the fill valve onto the overflow pipe. Attach the water supply line and tighten. Turn on the water to check for leaks and proper operation of the new flush valve. 10. Reconnect the water supply hose to the fill valve. Flush and check for leaks. Hi! I’m Blair Gilbert, aka MR. HARDWARE. There’s a lot of techniques for lapping valves. I find that the suction cup and stick works really well. The trick is how to test to make sure that everything is proper. First, use the water test. You make the head level, then screw in a spark plug upside down, and then pour water over the valves. Let it sit. You can put some toilet paper inside under the valves, and if anything leaks through, then you've got some more work to do. I like this method because I can do it BEFORE putting the springs on. lapping valve tool kit: 🤍 SUPPORT MY CHANNEL FOR "FREE" - visit amazon through this link (or ANY link on my channel) and I'll get a small percent of whatever you buy from them.
