Soo for the people who don't know basically end the end when subaru kinda defeats the sins and helps all the witches and most importantly he saves both setella and emilia they get their happy ending kind of but then someone stabs subaru from behind and he literally starts over to the very first episode of that appas shop and that's where the show ends

Yes many people don't get it but julias challenges subaru to that duel and beat him like that was all to protect him bcz pay attention subaru literally said in front of all the royal knights of the kingdom is being a knight that big of a deal he brushed it off as disrespectfully as he could which pissed basically most of the knights and some of them were even planning on beating the shit out of him and punishing him badly but juilas full aware of that decided to help subaru and challenge him to a duel and beat him in front of all the knights soo that he would be punished if he haven't done soo he knew the other knight would torture him worst and kill him soo basically juilas saved him and took the blame doing soo publicly

JPEdhLNFTZU&t=8m13s 8:13 Really late comment, but it was never a complete personality shift. In fact, it is in line with him in episode 1. Subaru has convinced himself that he is the hero. He truly thinks that he is Emila's knight in shining armor.

Even if he did not die all of those times and everything went the ideal way the first way. He would likely still think that. This is shown in his insane rant last episode. Despite being self-serving on all accounts, he thought he was doing everything for her and everyone else. He wasn't doing it for them. He was simply doing it so he could be important and the hero of the story. This is shown by him declaring himself as her knight rather than her friend.

It is not about him not understanding how their world works and what he does, that holds little relevance. It is about him being self-centered and why he does what he does. The number of times he died doesn't actually excuse his actions. It just invokes sympathy from the average person.

He only got through the first checkpoint because Reinhard showed up due to Felt escaping, and Emila healed him.
He only got through the second checkpoint because of Rem, Emila, Ram, Beatrice, and the Lord.

While he was the reason why they had the opportunity to do something, he wasn't the one responsible for saving everyone. Because in all cases, it was a team effort. That is similar to how it happens in Konosuba. It is a team effort most of the time, and no sole person is responsible.

Subaru is clearly faking his madness for sympathy, he's given up and wants others to handle things for him, but he is not truly mad.
Betelgeuse IS truly mad, so he knows an act when he sees it. Game knows game, and Subaru is lacking.
