The short answer is 1. HDMI 2. Optical 3. Aux. 1. HDMI cable is the most technically capable cable. You can get the maximum out of your system by using it. It's able to transfer multichannel uncompressed PCM audio. If you're playing very high-quality audio such as from Blu Ray or Ultra Blu Ray then you should definitely go with HDMI. 2. An optical cable is also used for carrying digital cable. However, it can only carry two channels. It might be sufficient for most of the applications. It also carries various compressed surround sound formats such as Dolby Digital & DTS. 3. Aux is an Analog cable. This sits at the bottom of the list in terms of its capability. However, if your audio source is not very high quality, it might be well sufficient. The source (eg TV) should convert it to an analog signal prior to sending it to the soundbar. Sorry, I didn't cover the coaxial connection in the above video. But in a nutshell, coaxial will improve the audio quality compared to aux. Also, coaxial is slightly better than optical because of its higher bandwidth. Coaxial can support up to 24 bit/192 kHz as compared to optical which is restricted to 96 kHz. Learn step by step and in just 1:30 minutes how to connect TV to soundbar with HDMI cable! At the back/underneath your sound bar, you should find a various different ports. Connect HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT (TV-ARC). IMPORTANT - HDMI cable must be a High Speed HDMI Cable in order to enable the ARC function. Luckily, nowadays most HDMI cables are High Speed. Back of your TV will also have various HDMI ports, but only the HDMI ARC port would be able to send audio signals from the TV to the soundbar. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel. If you don't hear sound through your soundbar while playing something on your TV, then try to turn OFF & ON your TV & soundbar, wait for a few minutes, and make sure HDMI is selected as the source for your soundbar! On some TVs, you might have to select soundbar (audio system) as your speakers! HDMI ARC and Digital Optical are very different as far as what they can support. Basically here's what each supports! Digital Optical: 2 channels of uncompressed PCM audio or up to 5.1 channels of compressed audio. End of story. This is the max that digital optical is capable of supporting. If you're getting no sound from your soundbar and it's connected via HDMI Arc, eArc or Optical then go through these troubleshooting steps to fix the audio issue. This will work for most TV's (Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, TCL, Vizio, Hisense etc) and Soundbars (Sonos, Bose, Sennheiser etc) as it's normally an issue with the HDMI Connection which is universal between brands.
